Who's Who at Dalby

Rick Dalby Rick Dalby, president of Dalby Tutoring, Inc.,and member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Albany in 1982 in chemistry and philosophy. His post-graduate work was at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He and Kate incorporated Dalby Tutoring in 1988. He is the exclusive tutor for all the graduate test preparation for the GRE, MCAT, GMAT, and LSAT. Personally responsible for successfully preparing thousands of students for the SAT, Rick is a magician known for motivating his students (even those who present a challenge to their instructors) to do well on the SAT.
Kate Dalby, vice-president of Dalby Tutoring, Inc., graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Albany in 1982, with a degree in Spanish/linguistics, and a minor in chemistry; she did post-graduate work in medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Kate Dalby She and her husband, Rick, developed Dalby's unique and outrageously effective approach to test preparation back in 1985. Cognizant of the need to stay current with the changes in the SAT, Rick and Kate take the SAT and other standardized tests as needed to keep their teaching skills razor sharp. Kate is happy to publish her scores so students can be assured of the level of excellence available at Dalby.

She developed the TJ program and is the primary instructor for the TJ prep class and the Accelerated SAT class. She supervises the apprentice program.


Bess Gerhart graduated with distinction and Magna Cum Laude in May 2009 from James Madison University, earning her degree in Health Science and a minor in Spanish. She currently holds a position as review editor for the inaugural issue of the James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal, and has worked extensively in research over the past two years at JMU. She is available for one-on-one SAT preparation, as well as academic tutoring in chemistry, biology, writing, grammar, and Spanish. She is an apprentice test prep tutor.
Jared Gerhart was the office manager for Dalby in 2006. He has returned recently to rescue students in need of math help. Jared's gentle, calm nature puts his students at ease. He's become quite popular in the short time he's been back with us. He is available for any middle school or high school math course including calculus. He is also an apprentice test prep tutor.
Nicholas Clark is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia with a degree in economics and psychology. He additionally completed a pre-medical curriculum, and is preparing to apply to medical school. He is available to tutor physics, chemistry, algebra, geometry, and statistics.
Katie Fawcett has counseled continuing education students at The American University, spent ten years in the World Bank's Publications department, and tutored at the Language Institute in McLean. She is a published writer, and has been a writer and editor for various periodicals and technical reports. At Dalby Tutoring, Mrs Fawcett is a reader of SAT essays and provides occasional tutoring in writing.
Pamm Hayter is our office manager. A former Fairfax County English teacher, she grades and comments on many of the essays our students write while at Dalby. She is available Monday through Thursday, 1 pm to 8 pm, to answer any questions about Dalby's programs.
Ari Scharf is a senior at HB Woodlawn High School. She administers tests on Saturdays from 10:30 to 4:30pm.
