The CTY course that I took was an online writing course. It paired me with an experienced teacher.
My instructor was from Oklahoma and we communicated through e-mail and through the phone. Each week I sent her a completed assignment. Then, she would sent me back a reply with corrections and edits.
This course taught me many new tactics on how to write better, but it did have some drawbacks. One, of course, was that I never got to see my teacher. Because of this, my learning was limited. If I went to a class, the time would be set and decided. But, since I was working at home, I was free to find time where I had it. That probably caused my thoughts to be unorganized. My writing was probably not the best it could have been.
This course was very effective though. It taught me so much about writing. Since she was a professional writer, she knew many tricks about writing. Each edit she made taught me more and more on how to improve my own writing. I have learned so much from her creative teaching skills.
My experience with CTY has taught me many new approaches to becoming a better writer. Although I did not meet with my teacher, she couldn't have taught me more.
