TJ Test Prep for 7th Graders

We have had a number of calls asking if we offer a preparation program for 7th graders. In response to this growing demand we offer the following three courses: a five-week math program, a five-week verbal program, and a five-week essay program. You may sign up for any or all three classes.

This program is a supplement not a replacement to our regular 8th grade comprehensive six-week summer/fall program. The purpose is to thoroughly review and drill concepts to establish the base for the six-week class. We start with a diagnostic test similar in content to the Thomas Jefferson test in order to determine areas of weakness. The diagnostic test can be taken without obligation at a cost of $90 anytime before the start of the spring classes. If the student then signs up for any of the modules the $90 fee is fully credited to the cost of the modules. There is also no obligation to sign up for Dalby's six-week comprehensive class.

Math Module -

we will review basic math, algebra, and geometry facts and practice mental math skills necessary for problem solving on standardized tests. Emphasis on speed skills and short cuts.

Math Option #3 Meets Saturdays, May 1st, 15th, 22nd, June 5th, and June 12th from 11am to 1pm.

Verbal Module -

we will practice and review sentence reordering, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension.

Verbal Option #2 Meets Saturdays, March 20th, 27th, April 10th, 17th, and 24th from 11am to 1pm. No class April 3rd (Passover/Easter)

Verbal Option #3 Meets Tuesdays, April 27th to May 25th from 6:30pm to 8pm.

Essay Module -

Each week the student will be given a 30- minute essay to write. The remainder of the class will be used to work on writing exercises to develop writing skills. We will correct and hand back the weekly essay at the following class.

Essay Option #3 Wednesdays, April 14th to May 12th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.

The cost of one module is $490 (includes the $90 diagnostic test), two modules are $870, and all three modules cost $1150 (this is a $320 savings.)

Who is Dalby? Dalby Tutoring and Test Preparation is a locally owned Northern Virginia company specializing in test preparation. Since 1988 we have helped thousands of students prepare for the SAT, PSAT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE, MCAT, HSPT, SSAT, and of course the TJ admissions test.

What makes Dalby special? We take time to know the students. Each student matters to us; if a parent needs to talk to us we are available to discuss the student's needs. We also design classes to be a reasonable length of time. Each of our TJ prep class sessions lasts one and a half hours. Anything longer is just too much time for seventh graders. We limit the size of the class; we will only take eight students. If there is sufficient demand we will open a second session on another day.

One final distinctive: Not only do our instructors have over 20 years experience teaching test preparation but they also have IQs several standard deviations above the norm. This makes them uniquely qualified to prepare the bright children that are candidates for TJ High School.
