Why Dalby? Dalby provides unrivaled private SAT (PSAT) tutoring for clients with varying needs.
What’s involved? We offer students a flexible one-on-one tutoring program that is tailor-made for their needs. Low scoring students usually need 12 hours or more of private instruction; average scorers need eight hours. High scorers often need as little as four hours of instruction - often broken down into half-hour sessions. All tutoring by Rick and Kate Dalby is scheduled for weekdays i.e. Monday through Thursday. Testing is on Saturdays.
Can I improve? Students wonder how much they can improve through test preparation. Generally speaking the easiest area to improve on is the writing, followed by the math. The reading is the most difficult area to improve because one must build important skills such as reading fluency and vocabulary strength in a relatively short amount of time. Nevertheless the conscientious student can attain significant score improvement.
What is the cost? The cost of the preparation varies with the number of hours of instruction. All students pay a one-time registration fee of $200, which includes the cost of the diagnostic test, all materials, and on-site practice tests. Each full hour of tutoring is $150; a half-hour session is $75.
Is cost an issue? Ask about our apprentice program. Apprentices rates are $100 per hour and they have weekend hours. Kate Dalby closely monitors the work the apprentices do to ensure that the student is receiving appropriate advice and review.
We encourage only serious students to take part in our preparation. The ideal time to prepare is in the spring of the junior year but sometimes it takes a student more time to benefit from SAT preparation; in that case, postponing preparation to the fall of senior year might be a prudent route.
What materials? We will be using College Board’s The Official SAT Study Guide for practice. We supply this book as part of the registration. It is required that students bring their books with them for each session at Dalby. There will be a charge of $20 if a student forgets his book and needs to use one of ours. For PSAT preparation we use real PSATs from previous years.
How do we register? Fill out the form below. At the same time call the office and set up an appointment for a 3.5-hour diagnostic test. You will be given further scheduling information at that time. Prepayment required for all scheduled appointments.
