Dalby's Comprehensive Seven-Week SAT Class

Why Dalby?

Small classes: ten or fewer students.

Experienced instructors: only Rick or Kate Dalby teach the classes. Each has over 25 years teaching SAT preparation. They've seen it all.

Classes grouped: all classes are grouped by math scores. This helps save students valuable time and can reduce class frustration.

Quality service: it is easy to reach either Dalby. All students have our cell phone numbers for texting 24/7 and person-person 10am to 10pm.

Flexible class schedule: can't always make the Saturday class? There is a free make-up each Wednesday following the missed class.

Flexible test schedule: can't always come to the Sunday practice. Our office is opened 3pm to 9pm Monday through Thursday for testing. The student only has to make an appointment to avoid overcrowding.

Changes for the Up-Coming Class

We are making some changes to our comprehensive SAT I preparation course. We have noticed that a certain number of students have trouble, in practice, focusing during the practice sessions. This is a particular problem during the reading passages. After considering this problem we have altered our program to address this issue. We are lengthening our classes by an half-hour so that we can administer one 20-25 minute section of the test and immediately review the errors that the student commits. Our hope is that this immediate feedback will help improve overall skills.

We are offering students a comprehensive seven-week course for the October 9th, 2010 SAT test dates. The course consists of a full 3 hour and 20 minute SAT diagnostic pre-test, seven instructional classes lasting 2.5 hours, four practice testing/drill sessions of approximately 2 hours 20 minutes each, and two additional full tests. Students will practice essay writing as needed during the practice sessions. Class size is limited to 10 students or fewer grouped by math scores.

How much can a student improve by taking an SAT class?

Generally speaking the easiest area to improve on is the writing, followed by the math. The reading is the most difficult area to improve because one is trying to build important skills (reading fluency and vocabulary strength) in a relatively short amount of time. Nevertheless, the conscientious student can attain significant score improvement.

Our experience has shown that most students follow through erratically with homework; consequently the only homework is vocabulary study. We quiz students weekly on vocabulary and expect them to pass with a grade of 65% or better. Because some students are willing to do outside work to raise their scores, we will provide additional, appropriate materials for these students upon request.

The cost of this comprehensive SAT course is $1,090. Additional private tutoring is $100 per full hour and $50 a half-hour. A refund (minus $200 for the diagnostic test) is available up to two weeks before the beginning of the course. After the first class, the refund is $550. There is no refund after the second class. We encourage only serious students to take this class.

We will be using the latest edition (released July 2009)of the College Board’s Official Study Guide for the New SAT in class and for practice sessions. We supply the book as part of the course. It is paramount that students bring their books with them for each session at Dalby. There will be a charge of $20 if a student forgets his book and needs to use one of ours.
