Are you fed up with the SAT? Does the thought of getting to the test center at 8am and leaving after 1pm (with only 2 five-minute breaks) leave you feeling overwhelmed? Does the idea of writing a timed essay make you anxious?
You are not alone. SAT scores all over the country are dropping and the word on the street is that the SAT is too long. Unfortunately it will be a few years before the College Board gets the message. In the meantime, we recommend taking the ACT.
What’s involved? We are offering students a flexible one-on-one tutoring program that is tailor-made for their needs. Low scoring students usually need ten hours or more of private instruction; average scorers need eight hours. High scorers often need as little as four hours of instruction - often broken down into half-hour sessions.
What is the cost of Dalby's private review? The cost of the preparation varies with the number of hours of instruction. All students pay a one-time registration fee of $200 (waived if you paid the registration fee for SAT tutoring) which includes the cost of the diagnostic test and subsequent practice testing sessions. Each full hour of tutoring is $150; a half-hour session is $75. Most tutoring is scheduled for Monday through Thursday. Testing is on Saturdays or Sundays.
Is cost an issue? Ask about our apprentice program. We currently are training two tutors in Dalby's method of test preparation. Apprentice tutoring rates are $100 per hour and they have weekend hours. Kate Dalby closely monitors the work the apprentices do to ensure that the student is receiving appropriate advice and review.
What materials? We will be using The Real ACT Prep Guide, published by the makers of the real test. We will also be using published copies of exams given in previous years. It is important that the student bring his or her book to every session.
